STANDARD OF CARE

This is a "think-tank" document designed to help you create your own personal Standard of Care. It's important that you believe what you write and that you remember what you write on a daily basis.

Your Standard of Care document in intended as much for you as it is for your clients. When people read it, they should learn some things about how much you care for them. When you read it, you should remember how much you love to do what you do to help other people.

If you don't remember, you may need to rewrite your document.

Vital Diagnostic Information

As a non licensed healthcare provider you must depend upon your clients for any diagnosis of any physical, emotional, psychological or mental condition, disease, disorder or issue they may have.

You cannot legally diagnose anything for any person or animal unless you are licensed by your state, province, district, territory or country to do so.

Remember: to diagnose means to analyze, assess, evaluate, examine, guess, judge or to try to discover what's wrong with your client.

The good news is that you can teach your clients to diagnose themselves with a higher degree of success than you or any other person can achieve.

Vital Prescription Information

As a non licensed healthcare provider you must depend upon your clients to prescribe the things they need or want to do about any physical, emotional, psychological or mental condition, disease, disorder or issue they may have.

You cannot legally prescribe anything to any person or animal unless you are licensed by your state, province, district, territory or country to do so.

Remember: to prescribe means to admonish, advise, advocate, caution, counsel, endorse, guide, hint, imply, opine, promote, propose, recommend, steer, suggest or urge your client to try or use any intervention or treatment of any kind.

The good news is that you can teach your clients to select the proper treatment for themselves with a higher degree of success than you or any other person can attain.

Vital Treatment Information

As a non licensed healthcare provider you must depend upon your clients to prescribe the treatment or treatments they want to address any physical, emotional, psychological or mental condition, disease, disorder or issue they may have.

You cannot legally treat anything or any person or animal unless you are licensed by your state, province, district, territory or country to do so.

Remember: to treat means to cure or attempt to cure, to provide an antidote, balm, nostrum, regimen, remedy or to attempt to heal, mend, regenerate, rehabilitate or restore your client or any part of your client to good health, nutrition or wellness.

The good news is you can teach your clients to select the proper treatment for themselves at this time with a higher degree of success then you or any other person can attain.

Vital Client Information

As a non licensed healthcare provider you must depend upon your clients to voluntarily tell you anything they want you to know about them, their family or animals.

You cannot legally ask your client to share any information about themselves, their family or animals unless you are licensed by your state, province, district, territory or country to do so.

Remember: vital information includes any data, facts or knowledge about your clients, their family and animals pertaining to their health, life, nutrition and wellness.

What Can You Do?

As a non licensed healthcare provider you may legally coach, demonstrate, educate, empower, facilitate, instruct, mentor, teach, train, test for their knowledge of the things you are teaching them or tutor your clients. You may answer their questions by using any of these skills all the time.

To coach means to actively and reflectively listen to your clients; to chat meaningfully and interactively with them, and to use coaching tools and techniques to empower your clients to make their own decisions about their own lives, health, nutrition and wellness.

To demonstrate means to use your body and other things to show your clients any technique they ask you to teach them. Once your clients learn the technique, you may honor your client's request to demonstrate the technique on your client's body or with your clients, or to teach your clients how to do and use the technique for themselves.

To educate your clients means to provide references and general guidelines your clients may use to learn what they want to learn. To educate is to instruct, mentor, teach, train and/or tutor your client about the things your client wants to learn.

To empower is to coach, demonstrate, educate, instruct, mentor, teach, train and/or tutor your clients to take responsibility for their own health, life, nutrition and wellness; and to discover the answers to their own questions.

To mentor as a non licensed healthcare provider and educator means to coach your clients one-on-one or in small groups upon their request.

Your Standard of Care

Now that you understand these basic principles, here are the two requirements for your own Standard of Care:

1. That you consistently exercise that degree of care, skill and knowledge expected of a reasonable, prudent person certified in your non licensed profession.

2. That you consistently coach your clients with the intention of empowering them to make their own decisions about their own health, life, nutrition and wellness and/or the health, nutrition and wellness of their family members and animals.
